How the blues discovered the harmonica

In his music history lecture, Herbert Quelle will take festival guests back 200 years on a fascinating fact-hunting journey to the creation of the harmonica in Germany, and its widespread use in the USA. During his last post in Chicago, the currently retired diplomat found unique access to the blues scene through his two novels, Monika’s Blues and Black Music Matters. With excerpts from his books, live music, and historical recordings, he will shed light on the incredible German-American story of the harmonica, the ongoing racial discrimination, and other relevant trans-Atlantic topics.
