We will conclude our festival with a top-class concert featuring a spectacular line-up. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the first ‘Zungenschlagfestivals’ in Berlin in 1996, the Free Reeds All Star Quartet will bring four instruments with free-swinging reeds to the stage at the end of the HARMONICA FEN FESTIVAL.
The programme features the Chinese sheng played by sheng master Wu Wei, the versatile accordion of Italian Vincenzo ‘Titti’ Castrini, the multifaceted harmonica played by jazz musician Steven De bruyn, and the archaic jaw harp played by Sören Birke. The four musicians will be accompanied by bassist Carmelo Leotta. Together they will play a fantastic mix of original songs and improvisations arising of the moment.
The free-swinging reed is a sound production principle that is several thousand years old. The timbres range from silvery finesse to powerful sharpness, opening up unique harmonic, melodic and rhythmic possibilities.
‘Free Reeds All Star’ combines tradition and modernity to create a concert experience full of sonic diversity and surprising moments.
