The joy of music and harmonica playing can be felt in every note played by the four members of Sväng. Eero Turkka, Eero Grundström, Jouko Kyhälä and Tapani Varis have been performing a demanding and entertaining programme of original compositions and arrangements with energy and a touch of self-irony for over 20 years.
Sväng invites you on an extraordinary musical journey, offering a free-spirited and cheerful mix of rhythmic music, ranging from Finnish tango and Balkan sounds to pieces by John Williams and Jean Sibelius. ‘Our background lies in history. Finland lies between East and West. Both the melancholic Russians and the cheerful Swedes ruled the country at different times. This is reflected in the Finnish mentality and in the music. We have a deep love for minor keys and melancholy. But we also have a lot of joie de vivre,’ says Jouko Kyhälä, an ensemble member, when asked to describe their music.
Eero Grundström – chromatic and diatonic harmonica
Jouko Kyhälä – harmonetta, chromatic and diatonic harmonica
Tapani Varis – bass harmonica
