Firmly rooted in the Chicago blues tradition, Keith Dunn is one of the most influential blues harp players of our time. Dunn, who now lives in Rotterdam, was born in Boston. He immersed himself in the world of blues while still at school and familiarised himself with a wide variety of musical styles with great curiosity. He was barely 17 when he first took to the stage with his harp. He played blues, soul, jazz, swing, big band, rock’n roll and rockabilly in various bands in Boston, studying the playing styles of blues greats such as Sonny Bay Williamson I + II and Luther ‘Snake’ Johnson. Later, he worked with Jimmy Rogers (member of the original Muddy Waters Band) and Hubert Sumlin (guitarist for Howlin’ Wolf). These experiences and influences can still be felt in his music today.
Dunn has released numerous albums – his award-winning and unique album “Alone with the Blues” (1989), on which he combined the harmonica with his voice alone, is particularly noteworthy.
Together with double bassist Klaas Wendling, known for his slapping swing sound, Keith Dunn will bring the blues to the stage of the HARMONICA FEN FESTIVAL.
