Her music is both powerful and gentle, full of volume and unassuming presence. Jazz is her world. The harmonica is her instrument. Hermine Deurloo, born and raised in Amsterdam, is one of the first women to make a name for herself on the European jazz scene with the harmonica. Whether in modern jazz or African music, in a string quartet or as part of a big band, Hermine Deurloo brings her instrument to life in a wide variety of contexts. She has shared the stage with Al Jarreau and Gwilym Simcock and played with international jazz and symphony orchestras.
At the HARMONICA FEN FESTIVAL, the jazz musician will be accompanied by guitarist Anton Goudsmit. Both share a love of idiosyncratic grooves and imaginative improvisations. Over the years, they have developed a unique repertoire of their own compositions and arrangements by Bill Frisell. The combination of Deurloo’s lyrical playing and Goudsmit’s cheerful creativity makes their concerts an exciting experience.
